Photographing wildlife is a passion of Anne Michaelides, founder of Nature Sign Design. She has won many top prizes for her work. None was more gratifying than winning first prize for her photograph of a leaping rainbow trout.
Lots of people asked ‘how the heck did you photograph that’ little did they know that it took her all of about 5 minutes! With the camera set for fast action photography, she saw trout jumping and though ‘could I?’ focusing the camera on the water and luckily the trout obliged, lucky shot?
The very same day she was photographing birds in a hide when something caught her eye. A stoat! Carrying a dead rabbit, it dropped the rabbit and in the blink of an eye was gone, but not before she managed to capture the perfect pose. The BBC’s Chris Packham was judge in this photo competition where she received a highly commended saying “I’ve never seen this scene in real life, indeed I’ve never photographed a Stoat at all. Anne’s snap is an amazing little tableau of a remarkable moment”. See article here
Her photographs of a hedgehog and barn owl were two photos chosen for two out of the top ten editors choice in three magazines: Lancashirelife, Cheshirelife and Dorsetmagazine.
Her photograph of a fallow deer has been chosen by the FSC Forest Stewardship Council UK to be used in their publicity campaigns. See it here
